Elucidating the molecular processes that underpin constitutive secretion and post-Golgi trafficking

History

I first established my group at the  Cambridge Institute for Medical Research in 2006 funded by a MRC Career development award. In 2012 the lab moved to the School of Bioscience at the University of Sheffield where it is based in the Florey building.  In the school we have an excellent concentration of cell biology groups who share similar interests in intracellular trafficking (Maib, Smythe, King, Erdmann, Humphries and Seward). We are also very lucky to have access to range of excellent facilities including high content screening, proteomics and advanced imaging.

What we do

My group is interested in dissecting the molecular process that underpin constitutive secretion and post Golgi trafficking. Constitutive secretion is a conserved process required for the delivery of newly synthesised proteins and lipids to plasma membrane as well as the exocytocis of extracellular factors such as cytokines, lipoproteins and antibodies.  To study these processes we use a wide variety of systems and techniques such as proteogenomics, functional genomics and  advanced imaging. Where possible we try to follow the science which has meant we are always open to collaborating with other groups who have the most suitable expertise.
