MA Academic Reps

Meet the 2023-24 MA academic reps.

The MA academic reps are here to represent you, and all history MA students. They will be in touch through the year to ask your thoughts but you don't have to wait. If you have any concerns or questions, please get in touch.

The MA academic rep system works in conjunction with the PG Forum and they also sit on the Department's Education Committee.

Rebecca Dunning (rdunning1@sheffield.ac.uk)
Medieval History

Hello my name is Rebecca, I am currently studying for my Masters in Medieval history. I have been at the University coming on five years now, having come up through Department of Lifelong Learning as a mature student and then completing my undergraduate degree here, so I feel like I know the people and place very well.

My current interests lie in European Medieval history, specifically Scotland and its relation to Europe. I specialise in the church and in particular female sanctity and the history of women and their role in state and societal changes in the eleventh century.

As an academic rep, my job is to represent the MA students and to ensure that the channels of communication between staff and students are open and clear. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any issues or problems you would like me to raise. Whatever the issue, big or small, let me know so I can ensure the student voice is heard.

Leanne Massey (lemassey1@sheffield.ac.uk)
American History

Hi, my name is Leanne and I'm a current American History Masters Student. After doing my undergraduate elsewhere, I was incredibly excited about coming to the University of Sheffield to do my MA. I am loving it so far & can't wait to see what the rest of the year entails!

My particular interests are in colonial America, specifically looking at Indigenous nations and how they influenced every aspect of the colonial experience. My MA dissertation will focus more specifically Indigenous nations in North East America during the 'French-Indian' War 1954-63.

I am looking forward to understanding more about how the University is run and how the MA is a part of that process. Similarly, ensuring that MA students feel they are fairly represented within the organisation. Consequently, if you have any qualms or queries that you would like raising please feel free to get in touch so we can make sure that the MA student voice is understood and appreciated!
