This project looks at how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) might affect young people’s trust in the news and information online.
Nabila is interviewing young adults (18 to 24 years old) to understand their perceptions of AI. The interviews will feed into creative workshops during which attendees can learn about uses of AI and have a go at using it to create content (such as text, images or sound) themselves.
The aim of this project is to enable participants to develop skills and discuss the opportunities and challenges of using AI. Most importantly, we hope that young people would feel that their voices are being heard when AI dominates headlines and seems to be shaping our future.
This is a PhD research project based at the University of Sheffield and undertaken in collaboration with BBC Research & Development as part of the EPSRC’s Industrial Co-operative Award Scheme. It has ethical approval from the University of Sheffield Ethics Committee, reference 056795.
