Things to consider before selecting your modules
Your programme regulations tell you which modules are available on your programme.
Please note that some of our level 2 and 3 modules have pre-requisite modules that must have been completed level 1.
Things to consider when selecting your modules
Ideally you will take 60/60 credits in each semester, however, if you do select a 10 credit module, we will allow a 50/70 or 70/50 credit split
If you are a dual student on either English & History or English & Music, you have the option to take either the English Literature pathway or an English Language pathway. Please note that you must continue on the pathway for the duration of your degree.
Please click on a module title to view the full module description.
You can select the screencast to watch a short overview of the module by the module convenor.
The tick/cross grid below indicates which modules are available within the regulations of each of our programmes of study.
Core modules have a green tick, approved modules have an orange tick and guided modules have a pink tick.
Please remember that places are limited on some modules due to teaching capacity.
If you require any further information or have questions about any of the modules please feel free contact the module convenor directly.
Genre Tags: During a recent Student-Staff Committee (SSC) meeting one of our English Reps suggested we tag our Literature modules using a suite of key words that would enable you to see at a glance, pathways through your degree and where you might specialise in particular subjects, genres, topics or themes. Each Literature module has been given two tags from the list below, we hope you find these useful.
Please note: the modules listed above are for 2025-26 academic year and the offering is likely to be different in future years.
The content of our programmes is reviewed annually to make sure it's up-to-date and relevant. Individual modules are occasionally updated or withdrawn at the end of each academic year.
