The Sheffield College is proud to re-pledge to TUC’s Dying to Work Charter which sets out an agreed way in which you will be supported, protected and guided throughout your employment, following a terminal diagnosis.
The College has signed a commitment to you as an employee should you be diagnosed with a terminal illness and that we will:
Recognise that terminal illness requires support and understanding and not additional and avoidable stress and worry.
Secure you in the knowledge that we will support you following a diagnosis and we recognise that, safe and reasonable work can help maintain dignity, offer a valuable distraction and can be therapeutic in itself
Provide you with the security of work, peace of mind and the right to choose the best course of action for you and your families which will help you through this challenging time with dignity and without financial loss.
Support the TUC’s Dying to Work campaign so that you have adequate employment protection and have your death in service benefits protected for your loved ones.
“We are extremely proud as a College to recommit to the Dying to Work Charter. By signing this Charter with our Trade Union colleagues, we hope to reassure our staff that we will always provide support and security should any of our staff be diagnosed with a terminal condition. The Dying to Work Charter sets out good employment principles and practices to help support and give peace of mind to employees and their families in an incredibly difficult time. Our focus is to become an employer of choice and this marks another step to achieve this.”
Angela Foulkes, CEO and Principal
“If one of our colleagues is ever faced with a terminal illness, I want them to know that they do not need to worry about work and we are here to support them. We recognise that facing a diagnosis of this nature will result in fear, stress and uncertainty and I want to remove any additional stress and worry an individual may have about work at this time. I am especially proud to re-pledge our commitment to the Dying to Work Charter to demonstrate our support to all of you and pledge to support you during the event of a terminal illness, including in continuing to work if you so wish.”
