Well-being Rapid Action Plans (WRAPs) are a personalised tool that the College use, whether an individual has a mental health problem or not. A WRAP helps to identify what keeps you well at work, what causes you to become unwell and the support you would like to receive to boost your well-being in the workplace. It opens up a dialogue with your manager in order for them to understand your needs and how they can support your mental health.
We all have mental health and WRAPs have been designed to support everyone when managing your mental health. WRAP’s can be used at any stage of your employment but can be particular useful to aid when returning to work from a period of long term sickness absence due to mental health problems. A WRAP can provide you with a structure of the support you will receive upon your return to work including any agreed reasonable adjustments.

An agreed time to review your WRAP and review the support measures that have been put in place.
You should plan some time on your own to fill in your WRAP and then schedule some time with your line manager to discuss this. Prior to the meeting, you should consider the support from your manager that you would like to be put in place. A WRAP should be written and owned by you which expresses personal choices, your personal experiences and your personal needs. The role of your manager in a WRAP is to discuss the plan with you and provide support including advice around what reasonable adjustments can be made. A WRAP can be a collaborative process.
By completing a WRAP, you will be able to plan in advance and have an awareness of what does and doesn’t work for you when managing your own well-being and also enables your line manager to understand the support you require. In the event you experience mental ill health, you will then understand the support that can be put in place by your line manager and able you to have an open and honest discussion about your mental well-being.
A WRAP should be regularly reviewed by your line manager and yourself to reflect any changes. By being proactive, you can take ownership of the WRAP and may help you feel more in control of your mental health.
The WRAP should be confidential to you and your line manager. You should only share information which you are happy to share. Your manager may ask you if you would be happy to share your WRAP with the relevant HR Business Partner. This could be due to discussions around reasonable adjustments.
It may also be helpful to share your WRAP with the College's Occupational Health Service should you need an appointment.
Your line manager has a duty of care towards you, therefore, they may be obliged to break confidentiality if you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or harming others. If your manager thinks you are at serious risk, they will inform the HR team immediately along with any emergency services.
