How do I research the best way?

We follow the Big 6 steps of research. You don't have to do the steps in order, in fact you might have to back up and repeat some steps, and that's okay!

1. Task Definition

1.1 Define the information problem - What question(s) do I need to answer? Is my question too broad? Too narrow?

1.2 Identify information needed - What kind of answer am I looking for? What do I already know?

2. Information Seeking Strategies

2.1 Determine all possible sources - Where will I find the best (most reliable, accurate) information? Have I asked my teacher or librarian about authoritative sources?

2.2 Select the best sources

3. Location and Access

3.1 Locate sources - I need to think about where I'll find these sources? Books, databases, magazines, experts, the internet? Where do I find primary sources?

3.2 Find information within sources - I will read or listen to the sources to see if they have information to help answer my questions. I will record the source information for my bibliography.

4. Use of Information

4.1 Engage (e.g., read, hear, view, touch)

4.2 Extract relevant information

5. Synthesis

5.1 Organize from multiple sources

5.2 Present the information - How can I present this information the best way? Video? slide show? paper? Visual guide?

6. Evaluation

6.1 Judge the product (effectiveness) - How well does my product show what I learned? What do I think others learned from my project?

6.2 Judge the process (efficiency) - What can I do differently next time to make my product better?
