Enrolling at SHC
Welcome to the first edition of our Discovering SHC series. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be hosting a series of videos with the aim of bringing Sacred Heart College to life for your family.
Due to the current COVID-19 period of isolation, our 2020 Discovery Day, scheduled for the 17th of March, was cancelled. For many of our prospective families, this event was planned to provide you with an opportunity to hear from our Principal Anna Negro, to engage with our students and staff, meet our College Registrar, Judy Smith, and to tour our College grounds at your own pace. But that’s okay, until we can open our school gates again, it will be our pleasure to take you on a virtual tour from the safety of your home.
In our next video, we’ll be highlighting the College's learning philosophy and how we have taken an innovative and agile approach to change and improvement in redesigning learning for our students. Until then, please visit our College website where you will find detailed information on the Family Life @ SHC page.
If you can’t find an answer, please post your question in the form linked below and we will respond promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions
on enrolling at SHC
on enrolling at SHC
Does Sacred Heart College Geelong only enrol Catholic students?
We certainly welcome non-Catholic families and invite them to submit an enrolment application. However, as a Catholic secondary school, Catholic students are given priority.
What is the closing date for Year 7 2021 enrolments?
Each year, the College receives applications for students currently in Year 6, and we will be accepting these up to the close of business on Friday 22 May.
Our family finances have been affected due to COVID-19 circumstances. Can we still apply to enrol our daughter for 2021?
Absolutely! As a Catholic school in the Mercy tradition, we are currently supporting many of our families who are facing financial pressures. We hope to offer the same assistance to prospective families who are considering enrolment at SHC.
Do you offer equity scholarships to families who may not be able to afford an education at SHC?
Yes, we do. The College is very committed to supporting families in need. We offer a range of equity scholarships to assist families with tuition fees, laptops and uniforms. For further information on equity scholarships, you can contact our Registrar, Judy Smith via the link at the bottom of this page.
How would the College approach the health and wellbeing of my daughter?
We are very proud of our ‘whole of school approach’ to the health and wellness of our students, staff and families.
We promote and model respectful and positive relationships, and we support our educators in teaching students to build strong relationships, and grow in resilience and confidence.
The College embeds a safe and inclusive learning culture and environment that includes:
Social and emotional skills programs
Timely support for students with additional needs
Opportunities for students and families to be involved in planning and decision-making.
Our curriculum focuses on supporting students to develop a deep understanding and gain the skills they require to make healthy and safe choices. In particular, our innovative PA40+ program provides a dedicated focus on empowering students to manage their own health, safety, wellness and physical activity through participation in varied and changing contexts. You can read more about our transformative PA40+ program on our College website.
What are the class sizes? And what languages do you offer?
Our research has shown that a class size of 26 students often results in more individual attention, increased engagement and participation, and better communication between the instructor and students. Therefore, our class sizes for Years 7 and 8 are 26 students per class, and for Years 9 to 12, the maximum is 27 students, depending on the subject.
For language options, your daughter has the opportunity to study Japanese, Italian and French.
Do you offer extracurricular activities?
Yes, SHC has an extensive range of extracurricular opportunities, including: private music tuition, choir, debating, public speaking, sport, international student exchange, language immersion programs and domestic and international outreach opportunities.
