For students in elementary school, literacy is a key to lifelong learning and opportunities for success. Therefore, our literacy enrichment team is an integral component of ELA (English Language Arts) instruction at Seven Hills Preparatory Academy (SHPA). Specialists "push into" classrooms during every grade level's classroom reading block to help teachers meet individual learning needs.

Our literacy enrichment team combines multiple research-based methods and strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of SHPA's student population. Literacy specialists utilize explicit instruction to develop phonemic awareness, engage students in oral reading to develop their fluency, and promote students' reading comprehension through research-supported techniques and strategies.

Ania Wrase

My name is Ania Wrase and I am a K-5 Literacy Specialist here at Seven Hills Preparatory Academy. I am excited to start my seventh year here! I received my elementary education degree at Mankato State University and my reading certification from Concordia University. I began teaching in 1997 as a classroom teacher - I've taught 3rd and 5th grades throughout most of my career. Seven Hills Preparatory Academy is a wonderful school and I am honored to be a part of the staff. I love to spend time at our cabin when I'm not attending all of the cross country meets, hockey games, or fast pitch softball my daughter Katrina is participating in (she's starting high school this year!)

Jennifer Rubey

My name is Jen Rubey and I am anticipating a fabulous fourth year as a Literacy Specialist at Seven Hills. I have a Masters degree in Elementary Education from the University St. Thomas and a reading license from Saint Mary's University. I have been an Associate Educator, a Literacy Specialist and a Media Specialist in the Minneapolis Schools for over 10 years. When not teaching the joy of reading to the remarkable students at Seven Hills, I can be found enjoying Minneapolis with my husband and two high school age children - biking, walking, cooking (or exploring new restaurants!) and of course, reading.

Becky Thompson

I'm thrilled to be starting my fourth year at Seven Hills Preparatory Academy and my 12th year of teaching! I've taught grades 1, 2, 5, Media, and even home-schooled my son for a couple of years. I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education plus endorsements in Early Childhood & Reading from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. When I'm not on campus, I'm with my family (Rob & Josiah) and most likely working on graduate school classes, curled up reading a book, coloring, journaling, biking, hiking, or watching the Minnesota Twins or Minnesota Vikings. I enjoy sharing my love of learning and reading with the young scholars at Seven Hills!
