EDGEWOOD VOLLEYBALL TAKES HOME DISTRICT WIN

What's next for our volleyball district champions

October 22, 2021

You've probably heard the news- after a great season, our Edgewood Varsity volleyball girls have become district champions for the first time ever. Now, these girls are headed to volleyball regionals for the second year in a row.

The girls ended their regular season with an amazing win-loss ratio of 12-4, which put them in 6th place in Brevard County. Last year, they were runners-up in districts, so though they had high hopes to win this year, they were not sure what the outcome would be.

On 10/19, they had their first playoff game against Melbourne Central Catholic and won 3-0. Their second playoff game was on 10/21 against Holy Trinity. It was a tough and exciting game, as they went into 5 sets, but they ended up winning with a score of 3-2.

Because of the astonishing first-time district win for Edgewood varsity volleyball, the team is now onto regionals. They will have a home game on Tuesday 10/26. This win is huge for the team and for our school.

This win would not have been possible without the effort and dedication of the whole team. They all stood up to do their best and worked as a team, but there were a few standouts at their winning game. Kate Lyerly, 11, contributed 15 kills, 7 aces, and 21 digs. Bella Schwantz, 9, contributed 14 kills, 9 digs, and 1 block. Carlise Helpling, 11, contributed 11 kills. And Sarah Watson, 12, contributed 6 kills and 3 aces.

After putting in lots of hard work throughout the season, the girls came out strong and brought home the district win. Now, they are ready to go into their first regional match strong.
