This season has been full of surprises. Here's what to expect during the playoffs
This NFL season has been full of surprises, and the first round of playoffs were no different. There were some big wins, as well as some big surprises. In the first game, the fourth seed Bengals beat the fifth seed Raiders 26-19. The Bills and Buccaneers both had huge victories over the Patriots and Eagles respectively. Big Ben Roethlisberger played his last game in the NFL, and on the day before the game, Roethlisberger said, ”We have no chance.” He was right, suffering defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. Another QB waited 13 years to get his first playoff win ever, when Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams Crushed the Arizona Cardinals. And finally, the 49ers survived a late rally from the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas came just a choked play from the two yard line of the 49’ers from winning. The Wild Card eliminated six teams from ultimate glory, leaving eight left. Those teams will face off in the Divisional round, and now we get to predict these games.
Bengals at Titans
When: Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET
Line: Titans -3, O/U 47
The Titans will play their first game in this year’s playoff after receiving the first-round bye. The Bengals just edged out the Raiders in their Wild Card Weekend matchup, snatching their first Playoff victory in a whopping 31 years. The Titans come in as slight favorites, and are likely to lean on the pound-the-ground offense that has gotten them this far. On the other side, the Bengals are going to use their high-flying offense to their advantage against the 25th-ranked pass defense in the NFL. That is the one flaw in the Titans game, and I think that this game is going to come down to whether the Titans can stop Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense. Ultimately though, I have to give it to the Titans. I think the Bengals will play a tough, great game, but I just don’t think the Bengals are going to go to an AFC Championship after not making the playoffs for 31 years.
Prediction: Bengals 20 @ Titans 24
Bills at Chiefs
When: Sunday, 6:30 p.m. ET
Line: Chiefs -2, O/U 54.5
This might be the toughest game to predict in the Divisional round. The Chiefs are on an 11-1 streak, and are looking like one of, if not the, hottest team in the league. The Bills are also having an incredible season, and Josh Allen is looking like an MVP contender. Now granted, Patrick Mahomes is also looking like an MVP contender as well, and we know how good Patrick Mahomes is in the Playoffs. Ultimately though, this game is going to be within five points, and I think whichever QB, Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes, plays better, will lead their team to victory. And after some heavy debating with myself, I think Josh Allen and the Bills will pull off a win in Kansas City. Watch out for Stefon Diggs to have a great game.
Prediction: Bills 34 @ Chiefs 31
49ers at Packers
When: Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET
Line: Packers -6, O/U 47.5
The Packers are the favorite to win the Super Bowl in most people’s book, and arguably the best overall in the Playoffs. With Aaron Rodgers at the helm, they should be able to edge out the 49ers, especially since they are in Green Bay which is one of the toughest places to play. On the other side the 49ers have had a great season, and their tough victory over the Cowboys last week proved that they are a great team. I am just too confident in Aaron Rodgers to pick the 49ers in this one. They’ll keep it close, but in the end, both Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones, as well as the ridiculously good Packers defense will get the dub, punching their ticket to the NFC championship.
Prediction: 49ers 18 @ Packers 28
Rams at Buccaneers
When: Sunday, 3:00 p.m. ET
Line: Tampa Bay -3, O/U 48.5
Both of these teams got comfortable wins in the Wild Card, the Bucs beating the Eagles, and the Rams beating the Cardinals. This is going to be a game of whoever plays better defense, considering that both teams have equally explosive offenses. This is the least confident I have been about any of these games, considering that one QB just won his first playoff game despite being in the league for 13 years. And the other is the greatest player in NFL history. But I am going to take the Rams in a close one. Watch for Odell Beckham to have a great game.
Prediction: Rams 27 @ Buccaneers 24
All of these games are going to be tight, and could go either way. In my model, the predicted outcome will be the Rams and Packers playing in the NFC Championship, and the Titans and Bills playing in the AFC Championship. This is only the first second round in the Playoffs, and there is still a lot of football to be played. With every game, another team is gone, and we will play until there is only one, and only one Ultimate Champion.
