Every gamer has an opinion on which is superior. But what are the real pros and cons of the two consoles?
For years, a fierce debate has been raging among e-sports players: which is better, PlayStation or Xbox. This battle of opinions has been being fought for about a decade, with both consoles improving and upgrading their technologies every year. Both consoles have evolved so much, and the battle has always been neck and neck. There’s not been one time where one blew the other out of the park. That being said, there are pros and cons to each gaming console.
Although PlayStation's newest console, the PS5, is amazing and has incredible features, it is not perfect. There are some cons to go along with the many pros of the gaming system. Since it’s always good to get the good news before the bad news, I’ll start with the pros of the PS5. Let’s start off with storage capacity. Storage capacity is very important in gaming and determines how much data you can store in your gaming system. The PS5 holds 825GB (gigabytes) of storage and a fast SSD, which is a storage device containing non-volatile flash memory, used in place of a hard disk because of its much greater speed. It has a 3rd-gen custom CPU Ryzen chip, which allows it to stimulate 3D audio and support ray tracing. This is beneficial for things like storing data like files and games. This is also way more storage capacity then the Xbox series X. The PS5 goes for around $400, making it more affordable than the latest Xbox console.
Following with pro number two, the PS5 runs at 120 frames per second, which is similar to a gaming PC. This not only allows streaming, but makes it to where your streams are good quality while still running a game at a high frame rate. Now that the good news has been shared, it is time to go over the cons of the PS5. There aren’t many, but they still need to be addressed. Let's start off with the controller. As you may know, the PS4 came with a controller called “Dualshock.” Most people who have a PS5 still have their Dualshock. The thing is, the Dualshock does not transfer over to specific games on the PS5. This forces you to spend money on PlayStations new launch of the PS5 controller.
With all of that being said, let's go over the Xbox series x. It is very similar to the PS5, but at the same time very different. What I mean by that is that the pros and cons of the two consoles are similar, but there are very minor details about them that make up the difference. To switch things up and start off with the cons, the Xbox series X does not have the best appearance. Although it may have a great performance, it doesn’t look pleasing while sitting in your room. It stands up tall in the simple shape of a big rectangle with no LED or other aesthetic lighting to go with it.
The only other con in my eyes is the price. The Xbox series x goes for around $500, $100 more than the PS5. Now for the pros. One of the best things about the Xbox X is its backwards compatibility. Although the PS5 supports backwards compatibility for PS4 titles, the Series X will allow players to play games from all of Microsoft's previous consoles. It's worth noting that not every game will work, but early testing suggests that a considerable amount of them will. Simply put, this is huge.
To wrap things up, both the PS5 and Xbox series X are amazing consoles and both a big step up from their previous consoles. At the end of the day, they will both give you an amazing experience and you will not regret your purchase. So if you're looking into a new console, remember that while the Xbox Series X and the PS5 are pretty similar, the PS5 is probably your best bet.
