BOYS GolF Team Wins Cape Coast Conference

After a season of hard work and dedication, the boys golf team has shown their skill

The Edgewood boy’s golf team is a force to be reckoned with. Having conquered their 2020-2021 season and won the Cape Coast Conference (CCC) for the third year in a row, they seem to be unstoppable. The CCC is a competition between only the best middle/high schools around Brevard, and to win the competition once, let alone three times in a row, is a pretty big deal for the competitors. With a total score of 302, Jon Wang,11, Asher Joseph, 9, and Corbin Snyder, 9, led the team to victory. How were they able to do so well with such little time to prepare?

“We didn’t have much of a regular season, but we were able to get in form quickly to win the CCC,” says Wang.

Mr. Nathaniel Johnson was responsible for getting his team in proper shape and condition, and notes just how great the team performed.

“They prepared really well,” Johnson says. “They practiced very hard, they took every match seriously, and they made sure they focus on the things that they know are essential for their success in golf.”

The team obviously worked very hard, and have great reason to be ecstatic over this victory. But what does it mean to the boys to win the CCC Championship?

“It means a lot that we won the CCC,” Wang says. “We were able to come back from our regular season loss to Viera, which felt great.”

Every individual on the team worked together to bring this win back to Edgewood, but Wang, Joseph, and Snyder definitely earned the right to feel pride in their amazing performances. Wang’s original all-time best of 68 was quickly dropped when he churned out six birdies and fired a 7-under 65 at the competition. Joseph managed to card an even-par 72 to tie for second, while Snyder helped the team with a 7-over 79 which provided Edgewood with these three top-10 competitors. Just in case you don’t know much about golf, these results are the kind you want to see. These three succeeded their personal bests and supplied the other boys with some needed support to help the win become possible.

“I’m obviously happy that I was able to give my team a good score,” Wang says, “More importantly, I’m proud that I shared some practice info so that we could discuss each hole and make a good plan.”

Each using different strategies, they all contributed to Edgewood’s monumental win of the 2020-2021 season. But this win wasn’t just for the boys out on the course, it was also a big win for Johnson and all of the team’s supporters. After an amazing season from these boys, we are all looking ahead to see what our boy’s golf team will produce next.
