All of the reasons you need to be watching this epic space drama.
I would be very surprised if you hadn't heard of The Mandalorian. Currently streaming on Disney+, The Mandalorian is one of the most popular TV shows of the year. Set in the Star Wars universe in between the original three movies (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) and the latest three movies (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker), this series covers the exploits of the bounty hunter known as the Mandalorian (affectionately known as Mando). At first a cold, intimidating figure, the Mandalorian slowly develops into a fan favorite character through his relationship with the ever-popular Baby Yoda. Now, if you're not already watching this series, you should be. Here, I'll lay out some reasons why you need to see The Mandalorian, and at the end, I promise you'll be logging into your Disney+ account to watch this epic space drama.
The first reason is that the show has a western space theme. Throughout the show, there are a lot of similarities between the alien worlds Mando visits and the Wild West of the American frontier. In the first episode of the series, Mando is shown collecting bounties on his targets, drawing a direct comparison between the Mandalorian and the hunters who would track down outlaws in the Wild West. The city in which Mando lives as a young child (seen through flashbacks) is designed to be reminiscent of the old West. This show combines two of the best TV genres of all time- Westerns and Space Dramas- and if the roving space-western nature of this shown doesn't appeal to you, I don't know what will.
Another reason is the introduction of new characters as well as the return of old characters. The Mandalorian features some of the most charming, likeable characters in the Star Wars universe, not to mention the reintroduction of fan favorite characters from shows like Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Clone Wars. With all of the enigmatic new and old characters bouncing off of each other, this show is captivating. But characters like Mando and Baby Yoda aren't the only new components of the show: in the first season, the audience also encountered a different kind of lightsaber (imaginatively called the "Darksaber"). While this "Darksaber" had previously appeared in episodes of the popular show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, fans were excited to see what the little-known weapon's capabilities were in The Mandalorian. With all of the new faces and weapons being introduced in this show, there's always something to spark new love for Star Wars.
But the biggest reason to watch The Mandalorian is simple: the story plot is amazing! During the first season, the plot was an up and down type, but in season two the plot was exciting all the way. The Darksaber is a huge story plot because it was originally used by the first Mandalorian Jedi. Then, during the animated series Star Wars Rebels we see the Darksaber being welded by Ahsoka Tano, who was a outcast Mandalorian (somewhat like Mando). These exciting story plots contribute to a show that is absolutely captivating. You won't want to stop watching this lively space drama.
Of course, the most iconic character from the new show is "Baby Yoda," or Grogu. This adorable mini-Yoda forms a touching bond with the Mandalorian over the course of the show, and viewers have fallen in love with the charming character. Easily one of the most instantly loved characters in Star Wars history, Baby Yoda is a big reason why many people started watching The Mandalorian.
Now, a new season has been released that focuses on a new main character: Boba Fett. First introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett has been a fan favorite for decades. Boba Fett's strange and tragic origins endear him to fans, who have loved seeing the classic bounty hunter in the new season of The Mandalorian. If you want to see more of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian is the show for you.
If you're still not convinced, go watch Star Trek. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy a masterful tale that fills in the gaps in the existing Star Wars canon and that captivates viewers with its charm and excitement.
