What's new in the car world?

A new year is going to have new beginnings for automotive companies.

August 31, 2022

The idea of turning over a car and hearing the engine roar seems to be going out of style. Car companies are going through some major shifts in production vehicles in the next coming years with some significant changes. The most prevalent being the dismissal of combustion engine production. Car manufacturers are continuing to push an electric line up through the next generation of sports cars.

Chevrolet has since brought up some major questions to consumers trying to go fast in style. The Camaro has been an iconic car for decades. Since the 60’s, they have earned quite the reputation and now, the 6th generation Camaro is coming to an end. It has been announced by Chevrolet that it will be discontinued in 2024. This leaves room for a new sports car in the lineup whether the 7th generation of Camaro is next or a new car altogether. However, it has been kept secretive about what the next car could be. Some rumors speculate that it could be a new 4-door electric vehicle. Another possibility is to see the return of a Pontiac Firebird that has been modernized. But with a new car, it likely means many new features to move Chevrolet into the future. This could be an opportunity for a total redesign of sports cars from changing its entire body style, to a new engine, tire compounds, etc.

Dodge isn't far from this electric trend, with a whole new line of cars coming. They have announced 2023 as being the last year to purchase Durango Hellcats, Charger models, and Challenger models. However, the last year for these cars might have some unique features available. There are packages from the factory that will only be available next year, including custom jailbreak modifications, as well as convertible options. After this, they will be completely phased out. This leaves room for a whole new line of sports cars, and one possibility has been unveiled by Dodge this past month. One that is both stylish and the controversial electric charger. It is unlike anything seen, but some people think that it may not completely be a good thing. It is meant to simulate the feel of a real muscle car, but it might need some major modifications before it can hit production lines.

Subaru is also following suit in a new line of performance vehicles. In March, it was announced the end of the WRX STI had come, but this car may not have to stay in the grave. There is a possibility that this infamous rally car has reached its end, but the more likely possibility is a redesign of this car. This means it would probably be hybrid or electric while hopefully still maintaining the rally design for the car. Lately, Subaru has been big on introducing more electric cars to the market and it is predicted that this could follow. Resorting to an electric car could continue the revolutionary design of the WRX STI and some. Weight and power are both very important factors in a race car, and it is no secret that electric engines have changed the game in the race world.

Mercedes-Benz, too, is also seeing some major changes in the coming years. Because of costs to produce combustion engines, Mercedes is slowly killing them off. In 2023, the infamous German V8 will no longer be in production. We are slowly seeing the decline of these models and engines with them. Future lineups mainly consist of hybrid, but there will be some electric options. The company has announced plans to abandon gas and diesel vehicles, but these changes are seeming to be implemented sooner than we thought.

Throughout time, cars are constantly changing and moving forward to the future. There are always new innovations changing the way we commute from place to place. Over time, though, electric and hybrid cars are seeing to be our new future because of many aspects. Tax reliefs and overall efficiency play a big part in this. They are simply more powerful and much lighter than the standard engine so it is no secret why they are making their way into the sports car scene now.
