WHAT A MARVEL

2021 is sure to be a good year for Marvel-lovers. Here are some of the most anticipated MCU releases this year

September 29, 2021

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a hold on movie-goers since the first MCU movie, Iron Man, was released in 2008. Ever since, Marvel has been providing audiences with action-packed hits, and Marvel releases can always be relied upon to be some of the most-watched movies of the year.

When a highly anticipated Marvel movie releases its trailers, fans are quick to notice the fine details and develop their own theories. In 2020, movie-goers were starved for Marvel content as a result of the pandemic. Now, we're in a year jam-packed with MCU releases, almost as if to make up for the movie-starved year of 2020. Here are the most anticipated releases of 2021:

One upcoming movie, Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, released a trailer that shattered both fan expectations and movie records. My guess is that this is going to be the biggest movie of the year, considering that when the trailer released on August 24, 2021, it ended up with 355.5 million views within 24 hours. The trailer shows Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, having to deal with the aftermath of the events of the previous Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Far From Home. The trailer ends on an exciting note, with Alfred Molina’s “Doctor Octopus” making a return to the franchise after over 15 years.

The return of this famous Spider-Manvillain has fans theorizing on whether or not any more previous Spider-Man characters will be appearing in the upcoming film. The most popular theory by far is that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's portrayals of Spider-Man will appear alongside Tom Holland’s version. The trailer also revealed the release date for the film, with an anticipated release of December 17 of this year. Hopefully, director John Watts can deliver a Christmas present that all Spider-Man fans will cherish and enjoy.

Another movie that has done a similar job of building a lot of hype is Marvel’s The Eternals, directed by Chloe Zoa. The return of half the population after the events of Avengers Endgame awakens the Eternals, an immortal alien race created by the Celestials. The Eternals have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years, and in the upcoming film they reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants. This movie releases on November 5, and will hopefully join the ranks among Marvel’s other box office hits.

2021 is most definitely Marvel’s year, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage serving as yet another highly-anticipated movie. Serving as a direct sequel to 2018’s “Venom,” this new entry introduces the bloodthirsty villain Carnage. The trailer reveals Cletus Kassidy, an escaped prison inmate, who has gotten in contact with an otherworld alien species. This contact transforms him into Carnage. The CGI work that has been used to create both Venom and Carnage shows just how much care and effort has been poured into this upcoming release. Venom: Let There Be Carnage releases on October 15 and hopes to satiate the needs of Marvel fans while they wait for The Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home to be released.

For almost a year, movie-goers have waited patiently for the delayed releases of movies from their favorite franchise. This year, though, promises to make up for it. All of the highly-anticipated MCU movies releasing this year are sure to be hits that will leave movie-lovers satisfied.
