Everything you need to know to rock Spirit Week!
Spirit Week is one of the most fun weeks in the school year- but what’s so special about it? Well, it brings the school together and celebrates Edgewood. Spirit Week consists of five days of students dressing up for specific themes. An additional bonus to Spirit Week is that if you dress up in Spirit Week attire, your homeroom class earns points!
The first day of spirit week is Monday, September 27th, which is Color day! Color day is pretty simple, as each grade is assigned a different color to wear. Seventh grade students wear yellow, eighth grade students wear orange, Freshmen wear green, Sophomores wear blue, Juniors wear pink, and Seniors wear purple. You can even step up the look by wearing a tutu skirt or a tie that corresponds with your grades color. Monday is definitely going to be a vibrant, eye-catching day!
The second day of Spirit Week is Character Day! Personally, I feel like this day lets the students add their own creativity. You can be any character you like. It can be from a book or a movie, or you can transform into your favorite celebrity. Some different examples of characters you can be are Winnie the Pooh, Eleven from Stranger Things, Rosie the Riveter, or Harry Potter. Or you can even make a bold statement with the well-known Inflatable Dinosaur Costume. I am going to dress up as a tacky tourist. I'll wear a Hawaiian floral shirt, khaki shorts, a straw hat, and some socks and sandals to finish the outfit.
The third day of Spirit Week is Country Vs. Country Club Day! You can choose to wear Southern, country/farmer attire, or, on the other side of that spectrum, country club attire. Country club outfits include a more sporty, classic style. For girls, you can put on a tennis skirt with a collared top. You can even add a cardigan over your shoulders to complete that look. And for guys, a crewneck sweatshirt with some shorts and a sweater over your shoulders as well. Country outfits could include a plaid flannel shirt and some skinny-legged blue jeans. Add on a Cowboy hat to emphasize the country vibes.
Thursday, Spirit Week’s fourth day, is School Spirit! You should wear Edgewood Colors(red, black, and white). You can also wear Edgewood attire from sports teams, or just any red, black, and white clothes. Some kids even take it to the next level and wear red and black face paint or body paint! This day represents Edgewood with its colors and spirit.
Friday is the last day of Spirit Week and is totally tubular! Friday is decade day - students wear groovy outfits from their assigned decade! Seventh graders wear the roaring 20s, eighth graders with the 80s, freshmen with the 70s, Sophomores have the 50s, and juniors with the 90s, and finally seniors with Ancient Greece.
You should definitely follow the Spirit Week schedule and participate in the fun! Spirit Week is from September 27 - October 2. It is an exciting way to have fun dressing up, earn points for your tribe, and celebrate Edgewood. Remember- when you earn points for your homeroom, you help your class in the competition for the coveted Spirit Stick! Join the excitement to make your school proud!
