Our Theories for Spider-Man: No Way Home

The trailer broke a record for views. Given all this excitement, what's to come in the new Spider-Man movie?

November 29, 2021

The Spider-Man movie trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home did something unprecedented. It broke the record for the number of views on a trailer in 24 hours, exceeding the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame. Now, everyone is waiting for what's to come in the movie. Some people have some pretty strong theories on what is going to happen. There are a lot of theories that people have made, but the most popular ones are the arrival of the Sinister Six; Daredevil's arrival, the idea that Doctor Strange is Mephisto, and the possible appearance of Miles Morales, Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, and Venom.

Some people predict that the new Spider-Man movie will include the Sinister Six. The Sinister Six are a group of supervillains who include Mysterio, the Vulture, Electro, Sandman, Green Goblin, and Doctor Octopus. Doctor Octopus makes his presence known at the end of the trailer when he confronts Peter Parker. Green Goblin also makes his presence known because his pumpkin grenade was shown in the trailer. Also, in one of the posters for the new movie, a silhouette of the Green Goblin is shown. People also think Electro will make an appearance because in a short scene in the trailer there are multiple lighting bolts hitting objects.

Theories on Sandman are abounding too, because there is a scene in the trailer where there seems to be sand rising up from the ground and beginning to form into a man. Meanwhile, people predict the Vulture will make an appearance due to the end credits in the previous Spider-Man: Homecoming movie. In the end credits scene, one of the Vulture’s friends says he will help him get out of jail and defeat Spider-Man. Also coming into prominence are theories on Mysterio being alive, as Mysterio sent a message in the previous Spider-Man movie after his battle with Peter Parker.

Some people predict that Daredevil might also arrive in the new Spider-Man movie. Daredevil is a superhero in the Marvel cinematic universe: a lawyer who fell into a radioactive substance and lost his sight. The substance boosted his other senses and strengthened him as well. People think he will make an arrival because in the trailer we can see that Peter Parker is being questioned for killing Mysterio. People believe that Peter Parker will contact Daredevil as his lawyer and he will help Peter fight his enemies and defend him in court.

Another theory is that Doctor Strange is Mephisto. Mephisto is a demon in the Marvel comics who feeds off of human belief and can shapeshift. Mephisto has had previous connections to Wanda and Doctor Strange, leading people to believe that he may actually be Doctor Strange in the new movie. In the trailer, there is no doubt that there is something off with Doctor Strange. In previous installments in the Marvel Universe, we have learned that Doctor Strange is committed to never tampering with time and space. But in the trailer, Strange is shown tampering with people’s minds, something that he, as the protector of the multiverse, had previously sworn never to do.

The biggest theory, however, is the arrival of Micheal Morales, Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man, and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. People think this because the trailer has a clear multiverse collision similar to the one in Micheal Morales’s Spider-Man. People think that Tobey Maguire’s Spider Man will be in the movie because the Green Goblin and Doc Oc from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man return in the trailer. People also think that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man will be in the movie because there are signs of Electro, who was a villain in the Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The last theory is that Venom will appear. In the end credits of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,'' it shows Venom watching the news on Spider-Man. Venom seems to have recognition of and connection to Parker. Eddie Brock is also in the movie cast for Spider-Man No Way Home, so a Venom appearance seems almost certain. People have a lot of theories on what we will see in Spider-Man No Way Home because the trailer inspired so much love and excitement for the movie. All of these theories are only increasing that excitement, and no matter which of these theories turn out to be true (if any), Spider-Man: No Way Home is a must-see for Marvel fans this winter.
