START CELEBRATING NOW

After Thanksgiving- and no earlier- is the proper time for Christmas spirit

November 30, 2021

It’s the day after Halloween. You walk into a mall, excited and imbued with the spirit of Thanksgiving on the first day of November. But wait… what is that? What is that sound? Is that… All I Want for Christmas Is You?

Who knows why corporations, businesses, and especially (for some reason) malls love to start Christmas the instant that Halloween ends. Maybe they’re just revved up with Christmas spirit, or maybe it's a ploy to make the maximum amount of money possible from the most consumerist holiday of the year. Again, who knows.

But many people find themselves conflicted when it comes to the right time to put up their Christmas tree. The reality of it is that many find themselves too eager to celebrate the season, causing it to spoil early. The key to preserving the season is to not begin too early, as this keeps the season alive and the spirit along with it when in reality, it needs to start after Thanksgiving.

Putting up the Christmas tree, going gift shopping, making Christmas treats, decorating the house: these are all part of the Christmas season excitement. But when should all of these wonderful festive activities really start? The real answer is right now- after Thanksgiving. Although this makes the season fewer than 30 days, it keeps the season lively and full of traditions.

After Thanksgiving, there are Black Friday sales to start the season off with Christmas shopping. After this, the rest of holiday traditions can be kept alive throughout the rest of November and December, up until Christmas. It makes the season just long enough to be enjoyed actively, but also just short enough to where the Christmas spirit doesn’t die out before Christmas day.

When choosing to begin the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving you can begin your shopping after the fall holidays and you can even get deals on your gifts. It also allows you just the perfect amount of time to spread out the fun. You can enjoy it while it lasts, but you don’t rush into things and get too much fun before it’s even time to put up your tree.

Overall, the season is meant to be enjoyed, but can lose its flair when it starts too early. Although companies look straight to Christmas right after October, it just doesn't have the right feeling. It’s not the same when you celebrate so early. When Christmas break comes around, there isn’t the same desire to bake Christmas cookies, sing the same repetitive songs, or even decorate the Christmas tree. That leaves NOW the time to celebrate the season.
