Best First Cars to buy

Need your first car but lost on which to choose? Here are some of the best cars for teen drivers

April 6, 2022

Getting a driver’s license is one of the most thrilling things for a teenager. It gives teens the excitement and freedom of doing the things they want at their own leisure without relying on someone else for a ride. But before you get that freedom, you have to start somewhere. Buying your first car is a big decision and most teens are limited in their budget. The biggest thing is finding the right car that suits your wants and needs for your lifestyle.

The Toyota Corolla is a great start. It is one of the safest options a new driver can consider. The Corolla is a very reliable car overall. It received a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on reliability, which puts it in the top 40 compact cars. Maintenance costs are relatively low and it also gets great gas mileage, ranging anywhere between 31-41 mpg. Since its initial production in 1966, it continued to hold its true purpose as a cheap, reliable, and efficient car. It is a well-balanced car that’s a perfect daily driver for a student traveling to and from school.

The Honda Accord is also a generally practical car for teenagers. They are relatively cheap on the market and don’t fluctuate in price very much. It's a well-versed car on the road and holds many similarities to the Corolla. It gets great gas mileage and was rated one of the safest cars in its category. It was once the best-selling automobile in the U.S. for a reason. It’s a cheap and reliable option with the 2022 model starting at $27,000 and previous years much lower. It’s a great car for a teenager just looking for a car to commute from a to b with minimal problems.

The Toyota Prius is also a very secure choice. It was one of the first hybrid compact cars to be all-wheel drive, which has proven to last throughout the years. It being a hybrid puts less stress on the engine and in turn, preserves the car for longer and gets great fuel economy. The newer models push up to almost 60 mpg which makes it one the most efficient cars you can buy right now. It’s great for saving gas money, especially with the rising costs of gas. It's also a greener choice in comparison to a normal combustion engine which means it releases fewer carbon emissions into the environment.

The Honda Civic is also a very well-versed car. It has a huge aftermarket availability which means it can be easily customized to anything. From a coherent daily driver, to a street car, a drag car, a race car, a mud car, a drift car, the honda civic can do it all. They are extremely durable cars meant to last and their v-tec engines allows them to be both conservative on fuel and also run at high rpm. They are built to take the abuse and can be boosted fairly easily on almost stock internal components.

At the end of the day, finding the perfect car is based on your needs for the car. It’s about finding the perfect vehicle that you feel is the right one for you but also meets the needs of your everyday life. Some teens are just looking for a grocery getter to get to and from school while some are looking for the excitement of building their own race car in high school. It comes done to a person’s passion, wants, and needs.
