fashion: what's in?

The trends that are in style in 2020

Fashion is a way many people express themselves. From simple to over the top, fashion trends are always going in every direction. From basic white and grey sweats, to multicolored dresses with 6” heels, trends vary constantly.

Recent trends have been soft pastel colors, mom jeans, crop tops, and much more!

Soft Girl- Soft girl is a fashion style based on a cutesy and feminine look. It often features pastel colors and floral patterns. Essentially, the soft girl is in between VSCO and e-girl style. It emanates the happy vibes VSCO girls are known for, but done up with the makeup and accessories that are loved by e-girls. Soft girl aesthetic outfits are very simple and casual with a pop of color. The clothing consists of plaid skirts, oversized jeans, crop tops, and dresses. Soft girls often have accessories like hair clips and jewelry.

Mom Jeans- Mom jeans were really big back in the 80s. Now, during a resurgence of 90s style, mom jeans have come back in a flash. These jeans are slim at the waist but tight around the legs. They are very comfortable and very casual. Mom jeans can go with practically anything, from sweaters to t-shirts.

Skater Style- The "skater" style has become popular in the past few months. Practical and comfortable, the skater style is all about loose and functional clothing that is appropriate for the sport and provides some protection. With all baggy clothing, it usually consists of graphic tees, crop tops, cargo pants, and baggy jeans.

90’s Style- 90’s fashion is officially making a comeback but with a modern twist. This style is a huge hit as we learn new and interesting ways to mix the retro trends into our more modern wardrobes. Fashion in the 90’s was minimalist, and by mixing current fashion trends with past ones, the looks of the 90s are able to mesh well into the current year. 90’s fashion consists of crop tops, chokers, baggy flannel shirts, chunky sneakers, and straight leg to flared jeans.

Some people use fashion to express how they feel. In some ways fashion can make you feel better. Where some people might lack communication skills, they can make up for it through their wardrobe choices.

With there being so many different clothing styles and fashion trends, there is no “right” way to dress yourself. At the end of the day, the only person that can decide what you want to wear is you. Whether it be an expensive name brand, or a hidden gem from the thrift shop, it really boils down to what clothes you enjoy wearing, and whether or not you are satisfied with how you look.
