Looking for a scare? These movies are are perfect to watch on a cold winter night
Christmas may not be the holiday known for spooky experiences. But with the wind howling outside your windows and a chill in the air, this winter may be the perfect time to spend inside cozying up with a few scary movies. As the weather turns cooler, these movies are sure to give you a fright and leave you satisfied.
Starting off with the classics, The Shining is an eerie movie you’re bound to have heard of. The 1980’s R-rated horror movie is one you will definitely remember. This adaptation of the original Stephen King novel follows a recovering alcoholic battling with his inner (and outer) demons when he and his family move into a haunted hotel as caretakers. From ghosts wandering the hallways to coming face-to-face with an axe, this movie has just the right amount of “scary” for your Halloween.
Next up on the list of originals, Halloween is a horror/thriller movie from 1978 that’s perfect for, well, Halloween. With an R-rating, it tells the story of Michael Myers, who had been relocated to a mental hospital after committing a vicious crime. Many years after, he escapes and comes back to haunt his home-town on Halloween night.
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! This 1984 action, comedy, and fantasy movie is a must-see movie for the fall season of any year. When three former professors find themselves without a purpose, they create a ghost-catching business, which leads them to a gateway to another dimension. This doorway threatens to release evil upon the city as “The Ghostbusters” scramble to save New York.
On a more recent scale, if you’re looking for a movie to keep you up at night and give you goosebumps... then you’ve found it. The Boy is a 2016 thriller that will leave you speechless. When a young lady by the name of Greta takes the job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy, things take a turn for the worse when she realizes that not only is “the boy” she has to care for a life-sized doll- but that the doll seems to move by itself.
Watch out, It is after you- released in 2017, this horror movie quickly gained popularity with those who love a good scare. Seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine team together during one horrifying summer. After finding an ancient, shape-shifting form of evil in a sewer, they have to overcome their personal fears to battle the bloodthirsty clown known as “Pennywise.” Fans of this movie are happy to watch the newly released It 2 as well.
