While the film industry may have been stagnant in 2020, this year will be a great one for movie releases
For all of you movie-lovers, Hollywood has been very busy for the last few months preparing for these 2021 movies to come to theaters. The next year is jam-packed with anticipated releases, partly because rescheduling and delays necessitated by COVID-19 relegated several 2020-planned releases to the new year. So for those who can't wait to get back into theaters, here are some of the most anticipated releases of 2021.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, featuring James Corden, Rose Byrne, and Margot Robbie, is set to release in cinemas on January 15, 2021. Peter Rabbit 2 is a fun family film that follows Peter as he ventures out of the garden and into a world where mischief is appreciated.
Now get ready for March 5, 2021- Ghostbusters: Afterlife is coming to town! Among the cast are notable names Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd. Calling all horror fans, be prepared- on April 23rd, 2021, A Quiet Place Part II releases. The first installment of this franchise, released in 2018, quickly became one of the most popular and well-known horror movies in recent years. A horror fan favorite, the first movie details the plight of a family struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world in which every sound spells disaster. Enormous, predatory aliens stalk humans on a practically abandoned Earth, using their super-sensitive hearing to detect their prey. The new movie follows the Abbot family as they are forced to leave the artificial shelter of their home and try to survive outside with nothing to protect them. While there isn't much known about this new movie, it is one of the most anticipated releases in the new year, and many horror fans will be on the edge of their seats waiting for the continuation of the Abbot family's story. The Office actor John Krasinski, who both wrote and directed the first A Quiet Place, will return in those roles in this sequel.
Also coming to theaters on April 23 is Last Night in Soho, featuring rising star Anya Taylor-Joy. While details are sparse, this psychological horror seems to focus on a young girl who dreams of a career in fashion and travels back in time to the 1960s to meet her fashion idol. Last Night in Soho was originally scheduled to open on September 25, 2020. Reports say that the film is not quite ready yet, due to COVID-19. This film is said to never leave the watcher bored. With bright neon themes and "claustrophobic" framing, this new release is sure to leave the viewer terrified- in a good way.

Even as Disney continues to move more of its upcoming films from theaters to Disney+, the studio remains committed to releasing Black Widow in cinemas.
If action and horror are not for you, Minions: The Rise of Gru comes out July 2, 2021. The film will be picking up from where the last film left off. One of the most anticipated films coming to theaters in the new year is the famous science fiction world of Dune. Originally planned for a December 18, 2020 release date, Dune is now debuting on HBO MAX on October 1, 2021. Dune features Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in 2017's Call Me By Your Name. This new Dune movie will be the first installment of a two-part film adaptation of the original 1965 Dune book. The film will cover the first half of the book, while the sequel, which hasn’t been filmed yet, will cover the second. This adaptation retells the story of Paul Atreides, a young man who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. The Dune series is one of the most popular works of science fiction ever written, and fans are on the edge of their seats to see how the new Timothée Chalamet adaptation will portray the beloved Dune universe.
Last but not least, Sing 2, an upcoming American computer-animated musical comedy film produced by Illumination, is coming to the big screen on December 22, 2021. A sequel to the 2016 film Sing, Sing 2 features stars such as Selena Gomez, Tory Kelly, Reese Witherspoon, and Scarlett Johansson. The original Sing portrays Buster Moon, a theater owner who holds a talent show to raise funds for his failing business. This sequel will pick up this story where it left off, following Buster Moon and the other characters from the original Sing as they attempt to convince a famous rock star to appear in the theater.
