The Student Handbook includes valuable information on how to complete projects, what projects are not allowed, logbooks, and science fair boards. The title is also linked.
It is important to note, there is not a microbiology category. Students in elementary are not permitted to do microbiology projects. This includes any project with MOLD. If a project has mold, even unintentionally or by accident it will be disqualified.
Students are required to have a physical display board for their project. You can purchase a display board at school for $5.00 or buy one at a store. Boards should be 4ft wide and 3ft tall. This is the standard size at most stores. Digital templates are provided to help students remember the components they need for their board.
Click on the bottom where it says Google Slides to open. Choose the Google Slide presentation you wish to open. Next click file, make copy and you will then have your own copy of the document you can edit. There are different types of presentation templates for the different categories of projects. If you are unsure you can always ask your child's teacher.
Students are required to keep a logbook to document the scientific process as they complete their project. Below you will find an example of a student's digital logbook and a template you can use. Students may do their logbook digitally or it may be handwritten. It should include dated, daily entries that tell the story of their project. Anything that happens with their project can be included, such as observations, sketches, and even frustrations. All logbooks should also have a bibliography. A bibliography is a list of sources students used when they began to research their problem. All projects should have a minimum of 3 sources. These could be books, websites, interviews with experts, or videos.
