K-1st Grade Activities

As you read or listen, think about- What character traits does Ada have to make her a good scientist?
Draw a picture of Ada, tell or label the character traits she has to be a good scientist.

Offline STEM activity Your turn to experiment and be a scientist

Gravity Test with Matchbox cars or other material (marble or ball),

Make some ramps with different materials you have (paper, books, cardboard, hey - whatever looks like it will work!)
Adjust the height of the ramps. How does the height affect the distance the car can go? Does the material for the ramp make a difference? Record your results!

Make a list of three questions you want to find the answer to and a plan of how to answer them.

Offline STEM activity Your turn to experiment and be a scientist

Gravity Test- Use 3 different surfaces to test how fast your object will move down the ramp (incline). You will need to create a ramp using 3 different surfaces but from the same height and using the same moving object like a marble, bouncy ball or a match car.

Ex .a wooden yardstick, a towel, foil. How long does it take your object to move down each ramp? Why?
If possible, add a curve to your ramp, does this change how fast your object takes from the start to the end?
Video chat with a friend or classmate for a race. Discuss variables before the race; height, surface, object.
Create your own experiment to answer one of your questions.
Compare or share your experiments with a classmate, friend or family member.
