About Our classes
Physical Science uncovers the principles of the physical world through chemistry, physics, and a touch of astronomy! As a ninth grade course, its aim is to present students with a view into the fields of science they can take later on in their high school careers in further depth. Core Physical Science is also a lab course, and is designed to teach students laboratory safety, equipment, and technique.
IB Chemistry I (both HL and SL) is the first year in a two-year-experience into collegiate chemistry. Students will study in depth the field of chemistry through data collection, problem solving, and critical thinking. IB Chemistry is also a lab course, and is designed to teach students laboratory safety, equipment, and technique.
IB Chemistry II (both HL and SL) is the second year in a two-year-experience into collegiate chemistry. During this final year, students will review the material they have already learned, dive into organic and inorganic chemistry and other advanced topics, explore a topic of personal interest in their IA experience during which they will design an experimental procedure to explore a research questions, and take all three papers that will be a determining factor in their score in IB chemistry. IB Chemistry is also a lab course, and is designed to teach students laboratory safety, equipment, and technique.
Physical Science and IB Chemistry I/II follow the Shaker Heights High School student handbook and Shaker Heights District policies.
