Native Garden Club

Welcome To Onaway and Lomond's Native Garden Club site!  It is always a good time to think about working in a garden! We are currently putting our school beds to sleep for the winter, and  we are proud to have donated 200 plants which earned close to $2000 for the Nature Center Plant Sale this past year. Hopefully you will find helpful and interesting information on our site. Included are important dates, educational information, and updates to our club activities. Just click on the Resources button in the upper right hand corner to access pages with books, links, and references  for garden club as well as your own home landscaping needs! Our Garden Club mission is to support native wildlife with native plantings. The students learn through guided inquiry about our local ecosystem and ‘adopt’ native birds and butterflies to support with flowers, shrubs, vines, and trees endemic to our region. We then investigate the needs of those plants in order to prepare for spring plantings. Our club undergoes a ten class cycle that culminates in a handful of planting/growing dates in April and May. Our garden club activities now occur after school and during the school day, and sometimes include invitations to family volunteer events during weekends.  Our goal is to have students take an active role in growing plants and designing habitat native to our region, and create partnerships within the community to educate others on the need for preservation. We have started a seed bank, and plan to have native plants to offer the community. Interested? Contact me:
