At Outwood Academy Shafton excellent attendance and punctuality is our aim for every student. Full attendance maximises learning opportunities. Our Academy attendance target of 97% is the minimum that we expect for all students.
To achieve this attendance level, a student should have no more than 6 days absence in an entire academic year. If your attendance falls to 90% or below you will be classed as a Persistent Absentee. 90% is the equivalent of you having half a day off every single week; 85% is equivalent to you missing an entire half-term.
Good attendance is celebrated in forms groups and assemblies.
Weekly and half-termly awards are presented in form groups. Whole school, year group, continent and form attendance is updated and publicised regularly in assemblies and form groups.
Individual students’ good attendance is recognised with termly prizes for 100% attendance, and include stationary and gift vouchers. Christmas and Summer events are held with daily prizes and form group rewards. End of year prizes are given to students with excellent attendance. Individuals with 100% attendance for the year are recognised with a special event.
Students are kept informed of their attendance levels via their form mentor weekly.
