My role within the Academy is heavily involved with the English department. Along with the Literacy Lead, I help to co-ordinate everything involving Accelerated Reader and Lexia which are both programmes used by Outwood to improve reading and literacy across both years 7 and 8.
There are over 11,000 books in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and it is my job to keep up to date with new releases and requests from students. I also make the LRC as welcoming as possible and have created a new ‘mindfulness corner’ which has useful books and resources to help students (and staff) relax during social times although, at the moment, the LRC is only available to year 7s. I create various displays in the LRC over the year including the main events such as halloween, christmas and easter and there is always a Harry Potter one at some point.
My main aim is to support all students in any way I can, hopefully helping to make their time in school a positive experience.
