French in Y7 and Y8 / German or French in Y9, 10 and 11.

The study of French/German will enable you to gain a more profound understanding of your own language and culture. It’s called cross cultural understanding

Language learning is a higher order skill and will encourage you to plan, solve problems, and manipulate the elements of language learnt to communicate effectively.

From Year 7 you will have the exciting opportunity to listen to and read authentic material in the target language on a wide range of topics, such as school, leisure time, family & relationships. You will learn how to pronounce words in a new language and will become more confident to speak in front of others.

Your study of a Modern Foreign Language will encourage you to think deeply and help you communicate with others – a great life skill that all universities and employers will appreciate.

One last thought….. Some of you may have studied French before and that’s great! Some of you may have studied Spanish and some of you may not have studied a foreign language at all. Do not worry about this. We will start from the beginning and everyone will be able to succeed :)
