Within the RE/Life curriculum Religious Education, Citizenship, PSHE and RSE are covered. The subject is taught through allocated Life lessons. Students will have a one hour lesson of LIFE a week, and this continues all the way through to year 10.
What will you study in LIFE at Outwood Academy Shafton?
During your first year of LIFE (year 7) you will study the following units:
Modern Britain
Active Citizenship
Introduction to World religions
Christianity
Humanitarianism
Judaism
Road Safety
The units above cover a range of strands that encourage students to consider life in modern Britain and incorporate British Values, rights and responsibilities. The religion of Christianity will run throughout most units taught in Life. However, the Judaism unit, allows students to study a second world religion from the remaining 5 major world faiths, along with Humanism, philosophical and ethical dilemmas.
LIFE is an extremely relevant subject and it will help you understand our constantly changing world and will give you valuable insights into the diverse beliefs and opinions held by people today, as well as the opportunity to reflect on your own opinions and beliefs.

I am Lead teacher of LIFE at Outwood Academy Shafton and along with a large team of staff help to deliver LIFE to students throughout Y7 to Y10. In this time you will be encouraged to look at moral and ethical issues throughout the world and be able to reflect on your own and others viewpoints. You will also be helped to understand RSE and how to make and form respectful relationships and value yourself in a world where this is sometimes overlooked and therefore it will help you to become an informed and confident citizen ready for life in the 21st Century.
