Dressing up makes these gals appreciate comfortable modern clothes (and pants!).
Your Give Methow donation in October supports education programs, including free field trips for MVE 4th graders studying Washington state history and the Oregon Trail.
GIVE METHOW is a great way to donate to the Shafer Museum
plus ALL the places you love in the Methow.
The work to care for and share accurate depictions of our shared is past is truly important right now - and your donation more crucial. Thank you for showing your support with a donation to the Shafer Museum this year.
Federal funding to the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and the National Endowment for the Humanities has been eliminated.
At the Shafer Museum, these funds brought programs like the 555th "Triple Nickels" Black Paratrooper & Smokejumpers presentation, and the Women's Suffrage special exhibition to the Methow Valley, and professional knowledge to the volunteers who work at the Shafer. Although small grants, these funds brought previously unacknowledged peoples' stories to light, right here.
Donations during Give Methow bring next year's history programs to the community. These are the programs that share local history with YOU and students from around the area:
2026 is the commemoration of 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the ideals that founded the United States.
Our local history series continues with "Our Methow Home - MAZAMA in 2026
Guided tours on field trips are FREE for local schools, including MV Elementary, Master's Christian School, Paschal Sherman School, LIttle Star, Bridgeport summer school, and Pateros Schools.
4th graders studying the Oregon Trail visit the museum and learn the challenges and joys of the newcomers arriving in the Methow Valley - and make tasty butter!
Thank you for contributing to the future of Methow Valley history!
In addition to the Shafer Museum, may we suggest other heritage and culture organizations to support?
Methow Descendants is a new non-profit run by tmətx̌ʷu/Methow People, who have inhabited the Methow Valley since time immemorial and supports x̌ʷnámx̌ʷnam/Hummingbird Ranch and their continued presence on their homeland. The Winthrop Library's Friends organization supports the community room at the library and frequent intriguing public programs, including one coming up on Saturday, October 11, on censorship. There are so many great organizations to choose from!
Give Methow is a great way to make your charitable gifts to Methow Valley organizations in one stop.
Can't choose or want to make a gift that benefits all the participating not-for-profits? Donate to "Give to All" and your gift will be matched up to $45,000 thanks to an anonymous and very generous donor who loves the Methow Valley.
The Minimum gift is just $10 and 100% goes to the organizations you support - the Community Foundation of NCW covers the credit card fees which usually take about 3% of your credit card transaction. Donate on a Monday to make it a Fun-day - you'll be entered to win $1,000 to donate on Give Methow any way you choose!
Objects, photos, documents and many remarkable things are preserved yet accessible in a museum. We consider items that fit within our collections policy.
