Welcome to Mrs. Pollmann's second Grade Class!
My Educational Philosophy
I love and value Catholic Education. I am a product of Catholic Schools, both as a student and as a teacher. My four children have attended Catholic Schools, here at SGM and also at St. Joseph’s Academy and De Smet Jesuit High School. I believe teaching is a calling, a vocation, to serve others, spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, and share the teachings of the Catholic Church to others. I am blessed to be able to share my faith and my passion for Catholic Education each day with my students, parents, and fellow staff at St. Gerard Majella. I love that I have the opportunity to give back to Catholic Education for all they have given to my family and me.
I see second grade students as unique individuals, created in God’s image, who have special needs, wants, and interests. As a primary teacher, I create a secure environment in which all students have an opportunity to learn. My classroom is challenging, but also allows for each student to find success. The curriculum is designed in a way that is interesting to all students and benefits the overall development of students. I have the privilege of being a part of my students’ spiritual, social, emotional, moral, academic, and physical development for one year. In order for learning to occur, the content and methods of my lessons relate to students’ backgrounds and prior knowledge. I provide concrete experiences for my students in order for understanding and meaning to emerge. I am enthusiastic about what I teach and bring joy to my classroom each day. I like to personally interact with each student on a daily basis, because I believe that all students have the ability to learn. I show my students each day that I am confident they can learn through the use of positive feedback and reinforcement.
By incorporating Catholic and Christian values into our daily routines and lessons, we accept and love each other as the individuals that God created us to be. We recognize each others’ God given talents and gifts, are grateful for them and use them to build the Kingdom of God here on Earth.
