The Tartans opened up the 2022 season against Queensbury with a 14 to 6 loss. It was the Tartans on the scoreboard first, vs the perennial powerhouse of the foothills league, with a goal from Dylan Bzdell in the first 5 minutes of play. After trading goals for the first quarter, Queensbury went on a 5 goal run the 2nd quarter. The Tartans were able to get 2 more in the goal before the half, thanks to Nick Coons and Jake Dariano, leading to a 4-8 halftime score.
Scoring by Jake Dariano and Dante Bianchi in the second half helped, but it was not enough as the Spartans from Queensbury went on to win 14-6. The Tartans were led in scoring by Jake Dariano and Dylan Bzdell with 2 goals apiece, Nick Coons tallied 1 goal and 2 assists, and Dante Bianchi also scored a goal. Defensemen Ryan Gaynor also recored an assist after running a successful clear and feeding Dylan Bzdell for a goal. In goal Bryce Layton recored 22 saves with a 61% save percentage.
The Tartans take on South Glens Falls next Tuesday at home on Hitchcock Field at 4:30. Last year South Glens Falls was our Foothills League champions.
