Big Brothers

Southgate Anderson High School
School Based Mentoring Program

Program Information

Big Brothers is a school based mentoring program that started in 2007. It is not affiliated with the national organization. Our program has been recognized by the Michigan Association of School Boards as Michigan's Best 2012-2013. We also were unofficially recognized when former Governor Granholm sent a representative from her Michigan Mentoring program to come an observe and interview our high school boys. She wanted to gather information from our program to utilize in a campaign to get more male mentors.

The Big Brothers/Little Brothers program matches high school boys with elementary boys to mentor throughout the school year. The boys meet once a month during the school day to do activities focused around social emotional lessons. The high school boys are recommended by staff to mentor and the elementary boys are chosen by their teachers or parent to participate.
