Welcome to Junior High Math!
In Jr. high school math classes, students will continue to build upon the foundational concepts they have learned in previous years. They will delve deeper into arithmetic operations, including fractions, decimals, and percentages, honing their skills in both computation and problem-solving. Algebraic thinking will be continued from elementary grade arithmetic, with a focus on solving equations, simplifying expressions, and understanding patterns and functions. Geometry topics will include the study of angles, polygons, and basic geometric transformations. Students will also explore data analysis, learning to interpret and represent data through graphs and charts, as well as probability concepts. Throughout these grades, emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, logical reasoning, and applying mathematical concepts to real-world situations.
This year we welcome Ms. McKenna Fred, 6th and 7th grade math teacher! I am looking forward to a great year with her. She did a wonderful job as a long term sub last year and ready to have her own classroom!
I will continue to teach 7th Accelerated, 8th grade Math, and Algebra 1.
Please feel free to email me - cshide@sg258.com if you have any questions or concerns. All assignments will be posted in the Google Classroom for the week! Students have a planner they can use.

It's Me
I am an experienced educator with a passion for Mathematics and Problem Solving in everyday life. I have taught in many grades and traveled the United States (mainly Illinois), as a consultant, training and coaching educators. My favorite job is working with students! I believes "If you are not making mistakes, you are not learning and growing!" I teach with an eye on figuring things out for yourself first, and then work on error analysis to find patterns and prove what works and doesn't work!
Fun Facts about me (Well I think they are fun!).
I'm mature! I am one of 7 siblings. I have 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 25 nieces and nephews including spouses, and 14 great nieces and nephews. This could change! I have loved watching our family grow!
I'm a horse lover! I want to ride until I'm 90! I have 3 horses, one paint and two quarter horses that are used in shows by a couple teens.
I like to cook and bake! Also eat!
I'm a hard worker and try to encourage hard work in all my kids and students! Keep on trying! You will get better and better and keep learning and learning!

Resources
In today's modern classroom, utilizing a variety of resources and technology is crucial for enhancing students' learning experiences. Websites and platforms such as Illustrative Math, Desmos, Geogebra, Wolfram MathWorld, Khan Academy, and Google Classroom offer valuable tools and content that can greatly support math instruction. These resources provide interactive lessons, simulations, problem-solving activities, and instant feedback, allowing students to explore and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts. By incorporating these tools, teachers can foster student engagement, promote critical thinking, and personalize learning, ultimately equipping students with the necessary skills for success in the digital age.
