Kindergarten Retention
Once a pupil is admitted to kindergarten, either at the start of the school year or later in the year, the pupil has the right to be promoted to the first grade one year after the date of kindergarten admission, unless a decision is made at the anniversary date to retain the pupil for one more year.
If retained, the district must have on file, for each retained child a Department of Education approved consent-to-continue form signed by the parent.
If a kindergarten pupil is retained without the consent form on file, the district is not able to collect the revenue for the pupil's attendance for the retained school year.
