Principal Dimitric Roseboro leads Aptos Middle School with a steadfast commitment to academic excellence and a deep appreciation for the arts. Under his leadership, Aptos has embraced its identity as a premier performing arts middle school, aiming to prepare students to master academic standards, demonstrate 21st-century skills, and develop unique perspectives to navigate high school and the world with a sense of purpose. By fostering an environment where the arts are integral to the curriculum, Principal Roseboro ensures that students not only achieve academic success but also develop creativity and critical thinking skills essential for their future endeavors.
Principal Adrienne Smith leads Herbert Hoover Middle School under her leadership, Hoover has continued its over 50-year tradition of excellence in visual and performing arts, integrating these disciplines into the school's core mission. The school emphasizes providing digital access to foster skills and programs that prepare students with the technological competencies required in the 21st century.

Henry S. Francisco as an Arts Coordinator is innovative and impactful. His contributions to arts education and all Arts Department events are amazing. As a CTE Arts, Media & Entertainment teacher at Denman Middle School, Henry teaches digital media arts with a focus on graphic design, digital photography, and video production/broadcasting. He is an Adobe Education Leader whose leadership and vision have led to the development and implementation of one of the first CTE AME Pathways programs at the middle school level and in partnership with Balboa High School through the California Middle School Foundation Academies Grant. His work not only equips students with 21st-century skills but also opens up early opportunities for creative exploration and career pathways. Henry’s dedication to building a strong foundation for media arts at the middle school level sets a powerful example for the future of arts education in SFUSD.
Damian Núñez in addition to his work as a dedicated arts coordinator for Thurgood Marshal High School, Damian consistently goes above and beyond to uplift his students and share their talents with the broader community. His willingness to take students out to perform at various events has inspired not only the audiences they reach but also other educators across our district. As both a teacher and a mentor, Damian leads with heart, creativity, and an unwavering belief in the power of the arts to transform lives. His commitment to fostering student growth and building community through performance makes him an outstanding role model and a true ambassador for the arts.
Paolo Salazar has demonstrated exceptional commitment to revitalizing the Arts at Lincoln High School. While earning his single subject art credential, he has simultaneously breathed new life into the school's art and architecture programming, enriching the creative experience for students. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Salazar has gone above and beyond by volunteering his time to serve on the School Site Council and sponsoring three thriving art and culture clubs, each providing students with vital opportunities for creative expression and cultural connection. Charlotte Moraga has devoted her life to the transformative power of dance. A professional Kathak dancer and choreographer for over 33 years, she is recognized not only for her mastery of this classical North Indian dance form, but also for her deep commitment to cultural exchange and arts education.
Charlotte’s artistic journey has taken her across stages and continents, but her heart remains in San Francisco, where she has made it her mission to bring the world to SFUSD students through the arts. For over three decades, she has worked passionately to ensure that young people from all backgrounds have access to culturally rooted, high-quality arts experiences.
As an artist, educator, and cultural ambassador, Charlotte weaves storytelling, rhythm, and tradition into every space she enters—bridging cultures and expanding perspectives. Her unwavering dedication to equity in arts education has made a lasting impact on countless students, and her leadership continues to inspire both the dance community and the next generation of creators and changemakers.
Band Director at Burton High School, is a passionate educator, skilled musician, and dedicated mentor who has transformed the music program into a dynamic and inclusive space for student expression. Under his leadership, the band has grown in both size and quality, providing students with consistent opportunities to perform, collaborate, and build confidence through music. Mr. Young brings not only technical expertise but also a deep commitment to nurturing young talent, meeting students where they are, and inspiring them to reach their full potential. As the music teacher and Mariachi director at Mission High School, Osvaldo brings deep passion, cultural knowledge, and musical excellence to his students every day. With an unwavering dedication to arts education spanning over 47 years, Nancy Gittleman exemplifies what it means to be an Arts Ambassador. Nancy’s journey began at the age of eight, teaching her dolls and dreaming of becoming both a teacher and an artist. That dream took root in a degree in Ceramics and Art Education with a focus on working with people with disabilities—laying the foundation for a lifetime of service through the arts.
Nancy’s contributions stretch across continents and communities. From Louisville, Kentucky to Niger, West Africa (as a Peace Corps volunteer), to cities like Chicago, New York, and across the San Francisco Bay Area, she has exhibited her work and enriched lives through art. Her commitment to equity in the arts has led her to write and secure grants that brought creative opportunities to underserved populations in each of these communities.
Her teaching career is a vibrant mosaic, including students from preschoolers to senior citizens in settings as diverse as public and private schools, juvenile detention centers, hospitals, rehabilitation institutes, museums, community centers, and international conferences. She has also provided teacher trainings and workshops for administrators and arts leaders around the world, always advocating for inclusive, high-quality arts education.
Nancy continues to explore and grow as an artist, regularly attending workshops and learning from master ceramicists around the world. Her lifelong passion for ceramics still burns bright, and her legacy as a teacher, mentor, and cultural connector continues to inspire those around her.

Samad currently directs the World Dance Department at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, the only public high school in San Francisco that is audition-based. He loves teaching adolescents because they inspire him to keep learning. Their curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking bring energy to the studio, enabling them to grasp complex concepts, generate original ideas, and solve challenging problems. This dynamic exchange inspires him to continuously question, adapt, and refine his teaching approach, ensuring that students remain challenged while feeling confident enough to challenge him in return.
What excites Samad most is that adolescents stand at the threshold of adulthood. He believes his role as an educator is to meet them where they are while guiding them toward what they may not yet see: their capacity for growth, their voice as artists, and their limitless potential as human beings.
As a former SFUSD student, she was fortunate to learn from many amazing and caring teachers who made education truly inspirational throughout my elementary, middle, and high school years. Their impact stayed with her, and she has carried that spirit into her own journey as an educator. She hopes that, in turn, she has been able to inspire my students and community in the same meaningful way.
Victoria Araiza is a lifelong advocate for arts education and cultural enrichment in San Francisco. A proud graduate of SFUSD schools, she now serves as a dedicated liasion for the last 10 years within the district’s Visual and Performing Arts Department, championing student creativity and community engagement. Through her facilitation in the SFUSD Mariachi Program, her role as liaison to the Arts Coordinator Network, and her advocacy for culturally rooted programming, Victoria continues to uplift young artists and help preserve the vibrant artistic traditions that have shaped her own journey.

Emerson Calderon is a shining example of passion, resilience, and dedication. A newcomer to the United States from El Salvador, Emerson has faced significant challenges yet remains unwavering in his love for art. Balancing a full-time job with academic excellence and pursuing his artistic dreams, Emerson's journey is truly inspiring. Despite being unable to take formal art classes due to his school’s curriculum, Emerson has continued to grow as an artist through sheer determination and self-motivation, making him an exceptional candidate for the SFUSD Art Ambassador role. Emerson's story is one of perseverance. As a newcomer without parental support, he has worked full-time during nights and weekends to support himself while maintaining outstanding academic performance. His discipline, work ethic, and determination are evident in everything he does. Emerson's passion for art is evident in his achievements. He recently earned a $500 prize in the Creative Youth Award competition, where his artwork was recognized as exceptional. Despite financial limitations, Emerson continues to create by borrowing materials from my art class and using every available moment, whether at home, during lunch breaks, or in advisory periods.

Junssu A. Peña, is a talented 10th-grade student from Peru. Junssu is not only an artist but also a leader, collaborator, and mentor. Her passion for the arts is contagious, as she constantly strives to master various art forms and encourages others to do the same.
Despite having minimal formal training, Junssu’s dedication to the artistic process is evident in her intricate, detailed, and beautifully executed works. Whether experimenting with new techniques, mediums, or styles, she demonstrates a deep understanding of creativity and artistic expression. Junssu pushes herself to create something unique with every piece, taking great care in her work and never rushing through the process.
Beyond her artistry, Junssu is a peer leader and a source of inspiration. She offers guidance and support to classmates, particularly when they face challenges with their designs. Kevin Vong is a 10th grade student and recent immigrant from Vietnam whose artwork is a powerful bridge between past and present, home and hope. Through deeply personal drawings and paintings, Kevin channels his homesickness into creative expression, preserving the stories, memories, and cultural identity of the life he left behind. Each piece is an act of remembrance and resilience, offering a glimpse into his emotional journey and the richness of Vietnamese culture. Roaa Radman is a 10th grade student and immigrant from Yemen whose art speaks with extraordinary depth and courage. Through her work, Roaa channels personal narratives of migration, identity, and resilience, using her creativity as a powerful tool for healing and connection. Each piece she creates is both a reflection of her inner world and a tribute to her cultural heritage—offering a voice to stories that too often go untold. Selena Qiu, a 10th-grade student who recently moved from China, began her art journey with little formal training. Initially unsure about her place in the artistic world, she quickly discovered a deep passion for creativity. What started as simple curiosity evolved into an undeniable connection to the art-making process, where she lost herself in the details of her work and found fulfillment in every piece she created.

A newcomer from Honduras, Gustavo has quickly become a standout artist in our school, impressing peers and instructors with his innate talent despite having no formal training. Adriana is a proud Peruvian student at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School, where she has been an active member of the music program since 2022. As a young woman pursuing music, Adriana has bravely stepped into a space where female musicians are still too often underrepresented—especially in genres like mariachi. Cassandra Lee has been chosen as a Student Arts Ambassador because she exemplifies what it means to be a dance artist, leader, and changemaker. From her early days as a freshman in the dance program to her current role as co-captain of the Lowell Dance Company, Cassandra has consistently demonstrated generosity, dedication, and artistic excellence.
Throughout her time in the program, Cassandra has taken on countless roles—volunteering to teach classes, mixing music, collaborating on choreography, and now, creating a senior solo for the Spring Concert. Beyond her own artistic practice, she has generously contributed her talents to a variety of school projects, including posters, collaborative bookmark designs for a partnership with a school in Lithuania, and beautifully crafted handouts that make math lessons more engaging.

Ben has developed an incredible passion for art this year. He went from having a minimal interest in art to spending a minimum of one hour per day creating his abstract pieces. Ben’s parents have reported that he is always looking for paper and markers and using every free moment to draw. This outlet has greatly improved Ben's behavior, participation, confidence, and communication at school and in the community during our program. As a non-verbal artist, Ben is so proud in showing off his pieces to his classmates and staff. In addition, he worked collaboratively with staff to mosaic and collage his pieces into large scale works that will showcased at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater. We are so proud of his artistic journey and his self-discovery of the artist within!!!
Denman Middle School
Renee Jiang is an exceptionally talented 8th grade graphic designer and visual artist whose work consistently exceeds expectations in both creativity and execution. Over the past three years, Renee has demonstrated remarkable growth, producing a portfolio that rivals high school-level work in its sophistication, originality, and technical precision. Her commitment to her craft, coupled with an intuitive grasp of visual storytelling and design principles, has made her a shining star in our CTE Arts, Media, and Entertainment and Advanced Digital Media Arts Pathway program. Renee approaches every project with thoughtfulness, innovation, and a strong sense of purpose, embodying the qualities of a true emerging artist and creative leader.
Claire Lilienthal Alternative K-8
Lydia Herold is a remarkable 7th-grade artist whose creativity, humor, and originality shine through her work. Her watercolor painting, featuring a whimsical skeleton in a top hat holding a lollipop with a heart, demonstrates not only technical skill but also a unique point of view. Lydia skillfully blends traditional themes with a contemporary twist, infusing her art with personality, playfulness, and thought-provoking symbolism.
Her use of color, line work, and composition reflect an understanding beyond her years, and she consistently brings imagination and thoughtfulness to her artistic practice. Lydia’s artwork invites viewers into a world where humor, identity, and tradition intersect—making her a strong and inspiring Arts Ambassador.
Sanseria Murray (she/they), lives to awaken, ignite, heal, and compel everyone she encounters through her words, her workshops, and her embrace. Sanseria is an accomplished poet, playwright, director, and teaching artist with over 20 years of experience in education. A word nerd, and lover of dark chocolate, Sanseria considers themself a storyteller with a deep conviction that the only way to our collective liberation is by living with a transformative and restorative, radical love ethic. Currently she is IMOD’s Educational Programs Manager, Sanseria has had a vast range of teaching experience: she has taught at the elementary level as a Speech and Poetry Coordinator, at the middle school level as a Theatre Arts Teacher, and at the high school level as a Theatre Arts and Literacy Teaching Artist. Sanseria joins in the mission of IMOD to serve student communities and educators by centering and celebrating Black percussive dance.
Corrine Nagata started teaching dance at SFUSD’s Alamo and Rosa Parks campuses 15 years ago. Through online dance classes during Covid and through in-person classes taught to this very day, our teachers remain trusted partners in providing dance services throughout these schools. We have grown steadily over the past fifteen years and now proudly service over 25 school sites in San Francisco. Nagata Dance is recognized for superb classroom management techniques, joyous and fully engaging dance curriculum, and creating performances that every parent, teacher and student feels proud of. Our unified curriculum and pedagogy has been proven over the years.
All Nagata Dance teachers have been trained under Corrine Nagata who spent a decade building her dance curriculum and refining her teaching methods. Her methodology has successfully serviced children in New York City boroughs, such as Harlem, Jamaica, Queens, and Washington Heights. Ms. Nagata has also taught at the prestigious Alvin Ailey school, Dance Theatre of Harlem School under Mr. Arthur Mitchell, and for Jacques Damboise’s National Dance Institute. Returning home and creating Nagata Dance in San Francisco has been the most rewarding and meaningful journey. Founder Corrine Nagata knows first-hand the value and power of the arts in public schools. She took her very first dance class at School of the Arts (S.O.T.A.) and this opportunity to experience dance as part of her high school education changed her life.
Shark has been teaching music for 17 years and has been the director of Rock Project San Francisco supporting students of all ages and abilities across San Francisco. Sharks students have gone on to be musicians at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts as well as professional musicians living and performing in San Francisco. For the past two years, Shark has worked with students in the AccessSFUSD Programs who serve students 18-22 with disabilities. Shark has an innate sense of meeting the students where they are at, approaching everything with a strengths-based focus, teaching a variety of musical instruments, and bringing out the best in his musicians!
