To add a scene to Summer of the Mariposas, we researched many monsters from Latin American folklore. The monster I chose was El Sombreron. In the original tale, El Sombreron dresses in all black attire along with his signature black sombrero. He also rides his black horse and looks for young girls to play his magical silver guitar to. His guitar has the ability to hypnotize people, not allowing them to sleep and braids their hair, putting a magical bond. Additionally, according to the folktale, he is immortal, so the only way to beat him is to cut the braid he puts on you to break his bond or to smash his guitar. Read about my scene in Summer of the Mariposas and what I changed to the original tale to show the theme that things aren't always as they appear.
