One of the best ways to help students take more responsibility for their learning AND solicit parent involvement and support, is to have an up-to-date and easy to navigate Teacher Website.
Creating Classroom Transparency for students, parents, guardians and the community!
I refer to a highly functional teacher website that supports learners keeping up with classwork while also being available for parents to see what is happening in class, a “Transparent Classroom”. Students in classes that do not have access to digital assets will have to reach out to their classmates and hope their friends have taken a picture of your board, or hope they took good notes or have a good memory. For students who are out sick or going to appointments there is no excuse for not knowing what is happening in class.
Accessing your Teacher Site
Once you have created a teacher website, creating access is easy! You can:
add the URL link in your email response,
link to your Site off your school website,
can ask students and parents to Bookmark the site (or create an "app" shortcut on their phones) so they have easy access to it.
Your objective is to create a "No Excuses" policy of know what is happening in class by having relevant information easily available!
