Title and Author: The Pelican Brief by John Grisham

Plot Overview: A university law student, Darby Shaw, writes a legal brief speculating that the recent murder of two Supreme Court Justices was related to oil drilling rights in swampland that is home to endangered pelicans. When the document, the “Pelican Brief,” finds itself in the wrong hands of people who believe it could ruin the current presidential administration, Shaw must go into hiding from an assassin and get her story out by proving her theory to a Washington investigative reporter.

Critique: I really liked this book because I love suspense thriller novels so the most compelling aspect was the plot which was entertaining and fast-paced. I haven’t watched the movie but I hope that it includes all the details of the mystery, which is what I found the most interesting, and makes the characters believable. What was disappointing was that there were moments in the beginning and middle that were a bit dull. Also, I didn’t particularly like the romance storyline of the novel.
