Title and Author: The Other Side of Lost by Jessi Kirby

Plot Overview: The other side of Lost is a book about disconnecting from social media and interacting with nature. Mari Turner is an instagram famous model. One day she posts a video about not being happy in her life. She makes the split decision to hike the John Muir Trail for her cousin Bri who died training for the hike.

Most Compelling Aspect: The most compelling aspect of this book was the way Kirby described the John Muir Trail. I could keep reading because it seemed so real and I felt the trail come to life.

Disappointing Aspects: I was not disappointed for any reason, but in the beginning when she starts to hike the trail is sort of slow. The best part is in the middle, as always.

Cover Critique: The cover is a very simplistic and minimal cover which fits the story. I would have liked a bit more color but the illustrations are nice.

Rating: I would rate this book a 5 because I would buy this book and read it again so many times. My friend also read it and thought it is a spectacular book.

Recommendation: Overall, this book is a great book and I would totally reread it. I recommend the Other Side of Lost if you like nature books, fiction books based in the real world, or any YA novel.

From Ms. Yang: How great! Jessi Kirby has actually written quite a lot of other books. We have Things We Know by Heart here. Also, if the hiking part is what you really liked, you might try Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It's got some adult content, but is also pretty funny in parts. Plus it's a true account of her decision to hike the Pacific Crest trail after her life goes off track. Reese Witherspoon was in the movie.
