Title and Author: The Giver by Lois Lowry

Plot Summary: This book is about the “perfect” world in which everything is decided for you, so that you don’t make a mistake. Everyone eats the same food, lives in the same kind of house, and even celebrates their birthdays all together. It focuses on a young boy named Jonas, who turns 12 and gets his job assignment. Unlike all his friends who receive normal jobs, Jonas is given a job that causes him to question his whole life. Under the instruction of a man known only as the Giver, Jonas realize that his world might not be so perfect after all. When put to the test, he must choose between what’s socially excepted and what his feelings inside are telling him to do in order to save the people he loves.

Critique: I really loved how the book showed the different aspects of society and how there really is no way to make them perfect. I enjoyed how it explored the true depth of feelings and how lost we would be without them.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book to anyone who likes utopian/dystopian novels.
