Title and Author: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

Plot Overview: This is a book that revolves around a boy, Christopher, who has a mission to uncover the mystery around the death of a neighbor’s dog. Christopher is extremely smart, but a bit weak when it comes to emotions.

Critique: I loved the author’s style of writing. When Christopher was mad, I felt his anger, and the same with other emotions. I almost cried at one point, and I was just as invested in the mystery of the dog as Christopher was.

Audience Appeal: A great read for audiences who like mystery mixed in with realistic elements, and are very curious.

Star Rating: 5/5

From Ms. Yang: What a great book! Thanks for posting, Maanasi. I don't think I will spoil anything by letting rising juniors in English 3 know that this will be one of the summer selections. And, if you found reading from the point of view of an autistic character intriguing, I would recommend, Funny You Don't Look Autistic: A Comedian's Guide to Life on the Spectrum by Michael McCreary. This is his true story. He amazingly started doing stand up when he was maybe 12 years old? I will admit that at first I didn't think some of his jokes were that funny, but I'd say stick with it and it will be well worth a read. Entertaining and informative. It's available on Sora, which you can download from Self Service.
