Title and Author of the Book: Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Plot Overview: Red Rising is about an interplanetary society based on colors with the Elite Golds at the top and lowReds at the bottom. Darrow is a lowRed and only recently discovered the surface of the planet Mars, his home, was terraformed and that they were not confined to the mines below. He joins a radical group called the Sons of Ares and infiltrates the Elite Gold Institute.

Critique: The most compelling aspect of the book is the sci-fi, futuristic feel it has the entire time. Even though the book is in the future, it still has the medieval battles that makes the book entertaining in every way. I was a little disappointed at first because the map wasn’t very clear and what feeled like should be an important moment was under-described. But as the book went on, it became clearer and more descriptive.

Cover Critique: The cover was misleading as it didn’t relate to the book’s content, only its title. The book cover is of two red wings which relates to Red Rising but not the book.

Star Rating: Overall I would give the book a 4 out of 5 because there are only a few minor tweaks that I would give. Otherwise it is a perfect book.
