Reviews for "Nerve" by Jeanne Ryan

Anna Sprouse (December 11, 2017)

Title and Author: Nerve by Jeanne Ryan

Plot Overview: Nerve is the newest app that lets players complete dares in exchange for money from the watchers. The harder the dare, the better the prizes. Vee decides to live dangerously and give it a try. She soon gets sucked into the madness and doesn’t know if she’ll get out in time.

Critique: I had seen the trailer for the movie based on this book and thought I might try reading it. I thought the book itself was only ok. There were quite a few parts that were very confusing (especially the end) and others that just did not seem realistic for teens. Despite the book being not so great, the movie version might be slightly better.

Cover Critique: The cover has the main actress from the movie (Emma Roberts) with neon lighted letters spelling out NERVE on a screen over her face with the buttons for watcher or player at the bottom. The cover is basically the same as the movie poster, but is very fitting with the aesthetic of the movie.

Star Rating: 3.5/5
