Title and Author: Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1) by Cassandra Clare

Plot Overview: Emma Carstairs, a 17-year-old shadowhunter, has been looking for the person who killed her parents ever since they died 5 years ago. Her parabatai, Julian faces his own struggles with raising his siblings on his own. When a new lead turns up about the death of Emma’s parents, Emma, Julian and their closest friends and family investigate.

Critique: The most compelling aspect of this book is the relationship between Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn. Their friendship begins to evolve and Julian’s ability to hide what he’s thinking and feeling from the people closest to him make their relationship even more interesting. The only thing that I did not like was that Emma is set on getting revenge for her parents, and we all know that revenge never ends well.

Cover Critique: I like the cover of this book. It relates a lot to the plot in the book.

Star Rating: I really liked this book. I would rate it a 4/5.

Additional Comments: This is the 1st book in the 4th Shadowhunter series.
