Title and Author: Firebolt by Adrienne Woods:

Plot Overview: Elena Watkins believed she was an ordinary girl until on a rainy night, dragons appear and kill her father. She is then transported to a new world, Paegiea, that is full of dragons and their riders. On a quest to save her new home from a waking sorcerer, she develops new friendships, enemies, as well as abilities.

Most Compelling Aspect: The most compelling part of this book are the action scenes. Woods does a great job of transporting the reader into the book and enabling them to feel similar emotions to the characters.

One Disappointing Aspect: One disappointing aspect was Elena’s struggle to adapt. Her struggle is crucial to the plot of the story, but I felt as though the author spent too much of the book focused on Elena’s hardships and repeated mistakes. Note: I have read the full series and this happens throughout all five books, and eventually turned me away from completing the series for a while.

Cover Critique: The cover is really realistic and the amount of detail is next level. Most dragon books leave much up to imagination by having a typical picture of a dragon, but this cover really was impressive. The cover really did reflect the contents as Elena was constantly surrounded by dragons.

Rating: I would give this book a 4/5 because it most of the time it kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to read more. I deducted one point because of the repetitiveness of the plot concerning Elena’s hardships.
