Reviews for "Everything I Never Told You" by Celeste Ng

Tessa Calado (March 12, 2020)

I recently read Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. It tells the story of the Lee family, their strained relationships, and the terrible tragedy which threatens to divide them completely. When Lydia, the seemingly perfect middle child, is discovered dead in the local lake, each member of her family must find a way to cope with the loss and the burning question of why it occurred. The reader is able to embark on this emotional journey with the Lees and explore how their relationships and the environment around them make them who they are.

This book is full of emotion, and the exploration of each family member was fascinating. Some of the characters annoyed me, and I was tempted to skip over their chapters; however, I became really attached to other characters as well. Even though each chapter jumps between characters, as well as the past and present, it was not convoluted. I though that the writing was eloquent and powerful, and rated this novel 3/5 stars.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about family drama, as well as character-based, contemporary novels.
