Title and Author of the Book: Everland by Wendy Spinale

Plot Overview: Everland by Wendy Spinale is a fantasy book based off of Peter Pan. London has been destroyed because of diseases and bombs. The only survivors are children including Gwen, Joanna, and Mikey Darling. These children are hiding from the evil Captain Hans Otto Oswald Kretschmer (H.O.O.K.) and his group, the Marauders. The Marauders steal children off the streets and are using them to find a cure for the disease. One day the Marauders grab Joanna Darling, and Gwen is determined to find her. Along the way she meets Pete, Bella, and their friends.

Critique: The most compelling aspect of Everland would be the story of how Gwen finds Joanne. Another point I found interesting is when Pete introduces Gwen to the other hidden children and shows her how they survive. I was not disappointed with this book at all, but my only complaint would be that it started a bit slow for me. After the slow part I was completely intrigued with this book so much I had to finish it in one night.

Cover Critique: The cover somewhat reflected the book. I think the girl on the cover is Bella, Pete’s friend, but I am still not completely sure.

Star Rating: I would rate this book at 4.5/5 because of its compelling story and characters. The only aspect I did not like was the slow start for me and the switching of perspective from H.O.O.K. to Gwen annoyed me a bit.

From Ms. Yang: Everland is the first book in a trilogy. After reading the first, how are you feeling about book 2 or 3? Would you keep on reading?

Additional comments from reviewer: I have yet to read book 2 and 3 but I have heard from others that they are just as good. I would definitely read the 2 and 3 and I plan to continue reading them.
